Small aircraft makes an emergency landing in Iași / Pilot injured and taken to hospital

An ultralight aircraft made an emergency landing on Monday, September 28, on the runway of Iași Aerodrome after suffering a technical malfunction during the flight. The pilot, the only person on board, was injured and taken to hospital for examinations and medical care.

The incident took place at the aerodrome on Aviației Street. The control tower alerted the authorities after losing radar contact with the aircraft. Two firefighting vehicles from Iași Firefighting Detachment 2, a mobile intensive care unit and a doctor-staffed ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

According to the Iași Emergency Situations Inspectorate, the aircraft managed to reach the runway, but a fire broke out after landing. The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived.

The pilot was conscious but had abrasions on his lower limbs and was bleeding from the oral cavity. He was taken over by the medical crew and transported to hospital. The ISU crews subsequently returned to base. The authorities are to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and the cause of the technical malfunction.
