A Wizz Air plane operating the Bucharest–London Luton route on Friday made an emergency landing at Henri Coandă Airport after reportedly striking a flock of birds several minutes after takeoff. The aircraft returned to the ground safely, and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations was mobilized.
Flight WMT3005 took off at 15:58 local time. According to sources cited by Antena 3 CNN, one of the birds reportedly entered one of the engines. The pilots contacted air traffic control and requested to return to the airport, and the request was approved.
The plane landed at around 16:19, with no problems reported at the time the information was broadcast. Emergency crews from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations were positioned on the runway as a precautionary measure. More than 200 people were reportedly on board, although it was unclear whether any passenger had been injured or required medical attention.
Authorities are inspecting the aircraft to determine whether it can safely continue its flight to London. The case is being investigated in accordance with the procedures applicable to aviation incidents resulting from possible bird strikes.
