The project submitted by UDMR parliamentarians to the Senate aims to reduce the allowance for children aged between 3 and 18 years from 292 lei to 100 lei, with the goal of combating school dropout. The difference of almost 200 lei will be allocated in the form of a presence scholarship, including for kindergarten children, valued at 250 lei.

The vice-chairman of the education committee, Szabo Odon, explained that the measure aims to stimulate school attendance, considering that school dropout has increased since the Constitutional Court's decision in 2006 to no longer condition the allowance on school attendance. The project stipulates that the presence scholarship will be granted only to students with a behavior grade of 10, and kindergarten children can have unexcused absences of a maximum of 5 days per month without losing the scholarship. It is estimated that the changes will come into effect in the 2027-2028 school year.
