The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice announced on Tuesday that it had indicted two prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Constanța Court of Appeal and two individuals without special status. Ștefan Gigi Valentin and Teodor Niță have been suspended from office and are in preventive detention. The case was referred to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the court with jurisdiction to hear the case at first instance.

According to the indictment, Ștefan Gigi Valentin is accused of continued influence peddling. Prosecutors allege that, between December 2025 and April 2026, he received approximately 110,000 euros, goods, and other benefits in his office, in exchange for promising to intervene with public officials to expedite certain procedures, obtain favorable decisions, and support certain projects. He allegedly also promised to intervene at the Constanța Office of Cadastre and Land Registration and with judges of the Constanța Court of Appeal.

Teodor Niță was indicted for instigating abuse of office, blackmail, usurpation of office, and abusive investigation. Investigators allege that he intervened in favor of a person close to him and exerted pressure on a representative of the Trade Registry Office. The charges are to be examined by the court.
