Two employees of the Olt Basin Water Administration have been placed in preventive detention for 30 days, having been accused of two counts each of taking bribes. They are Daniel Băviță, head of the Basin Water Inspection Service, and Constantin Alin Trușcă, an inspector within the same service.
According to the National Anticorruption Directorate, the two allegedly demanded and received, on two separate occasions, 10,000 lei and 6,000 lei from representatives of commercial companies. The money was allegedly offered during inspections carried out on August 12 in Brașov County, at work sites where mineral aggregates were being extracted and sorted.
Investigators claim that the sums were allegedly received so that the inspectors would not impose administrative sanctions for the irregularities found or would impose less severe penalties. On Tuesday, prosecutors ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings and detained the two for 24 hours; subsequently, the court ordered their preventive detention for 30 days.
Criminal investigative proceedings are also being conducted against other persons in this case. The accusations concern acts currently under investigation, and the two benefit from the presumption of innocence.
