Romania has recorded, between June 3 and August 25, a total of 46 cases of infection with the West Nile virus and two deaths, both registered in the case of elderly individuals with comorbidities, the National Institute of Public Health reported on Thursday.

The infection cases have been reported in various counties, with the most in the municipality of Bucharest (20 cases), followed by the counties of Călărași (4), Giurgiu (4), and Ialomița (2). Specialists recommend that the population avoid exposure to mosquitoes by wearing appropriate clothing, using repellents and insecticides, as well as ensuring the drainage of water puddles around households. These measures are essential for preventing the spread of the virus and protecting public health.
