Two British women killed in an accident on DN6 / They were transporting 10 rescued dogs, eight of which died

Two women from the United Kingdom, 41-year-old Rachael Harvey-Purkiss and 61-year-old Allison Condon, were killed in a road accident on Thursday on DN6, near the town of Vălișoara in Caraș-Severin County. The two were in Romania to transport 10 rescued dogs to France.

The accident, involving four vehicles, occurred at around 11:00 a.m. According to initial checks, the minibus registered in the United Kingdom allegedly crossed onto the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Romanian truck. Following the impact, the truck hit a second heavy vehicle, while the minibus became trapped between the vehicles. A van traveling behind was also involved.

The two women were pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver was injured. Eight of the dogs being transported died, while the others reportedly survived and were taken into the care of a Romanian rescue organization.

The investigation is continuing to establish the exact causes of the accident. The victims’ families and the Homeward Bound organization described them as two women dedicated to animal rescue. The British Foreign Office announced that consular services are prepared to provide assistance.
