The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has accepted Romania's invitation to participate in the B9 Summit in Bucharest, scheduled for May 13, but he will not be personally present at the meeting, according to political sources.
In his place, it is likely that the American delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The event brings together the leaders of the Bucharest Nine countries — Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia — and its main themes are regional security and support for Ukraine. The B9 format was launched in 2015 at the initiative of former Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Polish President Andrzej Duda, in response to the tensions generated by Russia's actions in the region, including after the annexation of Crimea.
