Ion Iliescu, Romania's first elected post-decembrist president, has died at the age of 95, after almost two months in hospital. Traian Basescu posted a message on Facebook expressing his condolences to Iliescu's wife Nina and his close friends and family, and emphasizing his respect for his memory. The hospital where Iliescu was hospitalized confirmed the death and sent condolences to his family.
