On Saturday morning, a 71-year-old man from Constanța was fatally struck by a car driven by a 57-year-old driver on Traian Street. The accident occurred due to an illegal crossing, with the pedestrian being hit while on the roadway, in a prohibited area.

The police confirmed that the driver had not consumed alcohol, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. Crossing in prohibited areas is a major cause of serious road accidents in Romania, where pedestrians are required to use designated crossings. Romania faces an alarming road mortality rate, ranking first in the European Union, with 77 deaths per million inhabitants, highlighting the need for increased road safety measures.
