A 73-year-old driver entered the wrong side of the A1 motorway between Arad and Timișoara and caused a chain-reaction crash. After the collision, the man continued driving, but was identified and stopped by police following several 112 emergency calls.
The incident was captured by the dashboard camera of a road user. The footage shows the car travelling in the opposite direction, directly toward vehicles travelling lawfully. The first collision involved a car coming from the opposite direction.
As a result of the collision, two other cars were involved after their drivers tried to avoid the area and the damaged vehicles. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Police managed to stop and identify the driver. He was tested with a breathalyser, and the result was negative. For the offence, the driver was fined 4,300 lei and had his driving licence suspended for 150 days.
