A 31-year-old Romanian man died during the night of September 26–27, 2026, after being struck by a car on Via Nazionale in Tezze sul Brenta, in Italy’s Vicenza province. The accident occurred shortly after the man had left a wedding reception.
The victim, identified by the Italian press as Florin Sorin Zaharia, lived in Villa del Conte, in the province of Padua, and was due to turn 32 in less than a month. He was reportedly trying to cross the road at a location far from a pedestrian crossing when a Peugeot driven by a 24-year-old man was traveling south from Bassano.
According to the preliminary reconstruction carried out by the Bassano Carabinieri, the impact was extremely powerful. The Romanian man was struck by the left side of the car, and no skid marks were found on the road. The victim’s friends, who were still at the venue, came outside after hearing the sound of the collision.
Medical crews attempted resuscitation, but the injuries were fatal. The driver, who was uninjured but in a state of shock, was taken to hospital for medical checks. After the accident, the Carabinieri intervened to protect him from the reaction of some of the victim’s friends.
The Vicenza Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal investigation. The young driver is being investigated for negligent vehicular manslaughter, while investigators continue their checks to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.
