Three men have been sentenced with final effect for stealing 16 bags containing approximately 10 million lei, money intended for pension payments, from the headquarters of the Romanian Post in Timișoara. The robbery took place in June last year and was discovered after the suspects were stopped by traffic police during a routine check.

On Thursday, the Timișoara Court of Appeal ruled that two of the defendants should each serve seven years in prison, while the third should receive a sentence of six years and six months. The sentences are final. The three admitted to the offenses, so their sentences were reduced by one-third, in accordance with the procedure applied in such cases.

At first instance, the Timiș Tribunal had set lower sentences in July 2026: three years and six months for the main perpetrator, four years for the second defendant, and five years and six months for the third. The three are already in detention after being remanded in custody during the investigation.
