Over 100,000 people in the counties of Dâmbovița and Prahova are facing a lack of drinking water for five days, due to the increased turbidity of the water from the Paltinu Dam, caused by heavy rains and accumulation works. The Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, has called for the resignation of the directors of the basin administrations in Buzău and Prahova, accusing them of knowing about the risks of water shortage but failing to inform the competent authorities.

Official documents would have confirmed these risks, but they were not communicated to the mayors or the population, which led to the inability to take preventive measures. Buzoianu emphasized that if they had been warned, local authorities could have ensured alternative water sources. Additionally, classes in educational institutions in the 13 affected localities have been suspended, switching to online systems.

Estimates for the resumption of water supply are uncertain, with a mentioned deadline of December 8.
