The Theatrical Union of Romania (UNITER) has expressed concerns regarding a pilot project of the Ministry of Culture, which imposes standardization of working hours for artists and staff in national theaters. In an open letter, UNITER argues that this initiative will lead to bureaucratization, destabilization, and devaluation of art, attempting to measure essential aspects of artistic creation that cannot be quantified. The project anticipates 1,800 hours of work annually, of which 900 are for rehearsals, reflecting a lack of understanding of the specifics of artistic work.

UNITER believes that the current regulations are immoral, considering the budget cuts and lack of resources. Representatives of UNITER demand the development of a law for theaters that respects the autonomy of cultural institutions and recognizes the humanistic value of art. They warn that rigid regulations can lead to the degradation of cultural life and call for an administration that trusts artists and does not impose administrative constraints.
