The Constanța Tribunal has decided to maintain the preventive arrest of the suspended mayor of Mangalia, Radu Cristian.

The Constanța Tribunal decided on Thursday that Radu Cristian, the suspended mayor of the municipality of Mangalia, will remain in preventive detention for an additional period of 30 days, following accusations of bribery and money laundering. The court's decision is not final and can be appealed to the Constanța Court of Appeal. Radu Cristian has been sent to trial by prosecutors of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) for allegedly receiving over 600,000 euros between 2022-2025 in exchange for issuing favorable urban planning documents.

Additionally, prosecutors are requesting the confiscation of over two million lei, considering that the amount was not obtained legally. Cristian Radu was placed in preventive detention at the end of August, and the next day he was suspended from his position as mayor.
