The Senate of Romania has adopted a legislative initiative proposed by USR deputy Alin Stoica, aimed at professionalizing the evaluation committees for disability assessment. According to the new regulations, members of these committees, including psychologists, social workers, and jurists, must have relevant experience in the field of assistance for people with disabilities. The initiative limits the mandates of members to two terms of four years each and establishes clear conditions for the termination of membership, thus promoting professional rotation.
Stoica emphasized that these changes will reduce the risks of routine practices and decision-making rigidity, increasing transparency and preventing corruption in the system. USR senator Cynthia Păun added that professionalism is essential for the credibility of the public system, considering the impact of decisions on access to social benefits. The initiative was favorably voted by 71 senators and will now be debated in the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body.
