Police Chief Commissioner Bogdan Ghebaur, the spokesperson for the Romanian Police, announced that his phone number was cloned and used in a scam through the technique of "spoofing."
Criminals called citizens claiming that they were helping them avoid a fraudulent loan taken out in their name. Ghebaur emphasized that if someone received a call from his number, that person was not him. He advised citizens not to transfer money, not to provide personal information, and not to install applications at the instructions of strangers.
Additionally, cybersecurity expert Silviu Stahie discussed new fraud methods, mentioning that cyber attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated, making them harder to detect. He warned that phone calls from people claiming to be from the police are becoming a common practice, and social engineering is now more effective due to grammatically correct messages.
