The Romanian Police has issued a warning regarding the risks of generative artificial intelligence, especially the use of deepfakes in cybercrimes. These fake videos are used for manipulation, destroying reputations, and misleading citizens. The police have identified various types of fraud, including investment and charity scams, where criminals use AI-generated images and videos to deceive victims.

Statistics from 2025 show an alarming increase in such frauds, with significant global financial losses. The police recommend that citizens be cautious, verify the sources of information, and not transfer money to individuals known only online. They also emphasize that police officers will not contact citizens via video to make investment recommendations.
