In its Predictions 2027: Cybersecurity and Risk report, Forrester estimates that the widespread use of artificial intelligence could generate major crises for companies. The predictions do not represent confirmed events, but point to risks that leaders should assess starting now.
The scenarios analyzed include a negligence lawsuit related to AI that could lead to a company’s leadership being replaced, a global outage caused by AI-generated code, and a data breach occurring after a model is replaced with a cheaper one.
The report emphasizes that accountability must reach the leadership level. Companies should be able to demonstrate who authorized an action, what checks were carried out and how the impact of an error can be limited. Forrester also estimates that, in 2027, spending on AI tokens in cybersecurity will reach $1.5 billion.
The growing volume of automatically generated code will put pressure on testing, controlled releases and recovery plans. At the same time, changing AI models can alter application protections and behavior. Companies are advised to monitor usage, costs, permissions, processed data and outcomes so they can verify, control and recover systems when problems arise.
