The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Bogdan Țărnea, reacted on Monday, August 10, to the criticisms of some Russian officials regarding Romania's takeover of the Giurgiulești Port.
Țărnea highlighted that Russia kills civilians daily and denies the sovereignty of its neighbors, making any statement about national identity coming from Moscow lack credibility:
“Any Russian official speaking about the national identity of a country is in evident contradiction. While spewing this kind of Stalinist propaganda, Russia is engaged in a brutal conquest war. Russia kills civilians daily while denying the sovereignty and national identity of a neighbor. How can one take seriously any statement on such topics coming from Moscow?"
In this context, the Romanian official emphasized that national aspirations are not respected by Moscow, which seeks to control through war and propaganda.
“National identities and national aspirations do not respond to Moscow's demands, neither when it comes to language nor when it comes to economic decisions and investments. The times when Moscow chose for these nations by force or imposed what they should do are over. Russian war and propaganda are two faces of the same desire for control from Moscow,” added Țărnea.
