A 37-year-old man tried to rob a bank in Iași with a toy gun, but left empty-handed. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

In October 2024, a 37-year-old man attempted to commit a robbery at a bank in the Alexandru cel Bun neighborhood of Iași. Dressed in a jacket, with a hat and sunglasses, he entered the bank carrying a toy gun painted black and threatened the employees to give him the money from the ATMs. The incident occurred 15 minutes after the bank closed, but the suspect left empty-handed because the ATMs were not loaded. The robbery was captured by surveillance cameras and lasted about a quarter of an hour.

The Iași Court of Appeal decided to sentence him to 3 years in prison, after he initially received a suspended sentence. Prosecutors contested the initial decision, arguing that his actions were premeditated and caused fear among the employees.
