An OECD report shows that the retirement age in Romania could increase to 67 years by the end of the 2060s, for both women and men.

According to the analysis, women will see the largest change, from 62 years and two months to 67 years, while for men the threshold will rise from 65 to 67 years. This evolution is attributed to the aging population and the increasing pressure on public pension systems.

The report emphasizes that raising the retirement age is one of the main solutions for maintaining the financial sustainability of pension systems.

In Romania, the legislation already in force provides for a gradual increase in the retirement age for women to 65 years by 2035, and OECD projections indicate a new phase of increase in the coming decades, up to 67 years.
