In a recent statement, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan addressed the issue of government spending and the possible increase of VAT. He explained that reducing spending takes time and analysis, and the effects are not immediate. Although he mentioned that a combination of increasing revenues and reducing expenditures was necessary, Bolojan emphasized that if spending is kept under control and the measures in the government program are respected, there will be no need to increase VAT or other taxes in the coming year.
