On Tuesday evening, several hundred police officers protested in Victory Square, dissatisfied with the provisions of the law regarding administrative reform, especially the increase in the retirement age.

Members of the National Union of Police Officers and Contractual Staff from the Ministry of Internal Affairs tried to enter the Government headquarters to discuss with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, but they were stopped by gendarmes, as the Registry was closed. The protesters shouted against the draft ordinance, considering it an illegality that will create new taxes for Romanians.

They demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister and threatened to block prisons in the coming weeks. The protest took place in the context in which the Government was set to adopt measures for cuts in administration and an economic recovery package, the meeting being postponed due to the lack of necessary approvals.
