The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced the adoption of the draft law regarding international sanctions, which is set to be promulgated by the President of Romania. This law transposes the European Union directive into national legislation and prevents Romania from being subjected to infringement procedures. According to the normative act, violating or evading international sanctions, including those imposed on Russia, becomes a serious crime under the jurisdiction of DIICOT.
The law also clarifies the cooperation mechanisms between the authorities involved in the enforcement of sanctions and establishes the penal framework for individuals and legal entities that support sanctioned entities. The draft was adopted with an overwhelming majority in Parliament, highlighting Romania's commitment to international security and alignment with European standards.
