The judges of the Bucharest Military Tribunal will continue the final debates on Thursday in the case of August 10, in which former leaders of the Romanian Gendarmerie are accused of abuse of office for the violent intervention in 2018 at the protests in Victory Square.

On the first day of the debates, both injured parties and their lawyers were present. The tribunal will set deadlines for issuing a decision, considering that the facts will be subject to statute of limitations in approximately five months.

The accused, including Laurențiu Cazan and Sebastian Cucoș, are responsible for the violent dispersal of peaceful protesters, using tear gas and grenades.

The Declic community emphasized that the trial has been marked by attempts to delay proceedings, and the hearings are taking place in a critical context, with the risk of closing the case without a verdict. The tribunal accepted the request to waive the hearing of 373 witnesses, thus speeding up the procedure. Expert reports show that the intervention of the gendarmes caused serious injuries, and the case was reopened after it was initially closed, with the support of the Declic Community.
