Filip Ioan, the mayor of the Zărnești commune, Neamț County, has been detained by DNA prosecutors on charges of bribery and abuse of office. He allegedly received money, goods, and services from entrepreneurs to facilitate public works contracts. For example, a company administrator is said to have built him a house, which the mayor later sold for 150,000 euros, and he allegedly demanded half of the profit obtained from the sidewalk rehabilitation contracts. Other officials from the mayor's office are involved in the case, being accused of complicity.
Prosecutors have established that, between 2023 and 2025, the mayor demanded significant sums from various companies to ensure the favorable execution of contracts, causing a damage of nearly 926,000 lei. Filip Ioan will be presented to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest.
