The mayor of the commune of Sânpetru de Câmpie, Spiru Șerban Crăciun, aged 32, was detained by police for 24 hours, along with two other individuals, as part of an investigation into illegal connections to the electrical network.
The action took place following 20 searches conducted in several locations, according to judicial sources. Representatives of the Mureș County Police Inspectorate confirmed the detention of the three men, aged 32, 44, and 55, in a criminal case concerning the use of clandestine installations for direct connection to the network or bypassing measuring equipment.
The police mobilized a large number of specialists from various departments and services to carry out the operation. The case is coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Târgu Mureș Court, and investigations continue to gather all necessary evidence. Spiru Șerban Crăciun was elected mayor on behalf of the PSD in 2020 and obtained a new mandate in 2024, with 65.5% of the votes.
