On February 10, the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, announced the inauguration of the first oncological bunker dedicated to modern radiotherapy in a public hospital in Romania, located 9 meters below ground level, at the Bucharest Emergency University Hospital. This bunker is built to ensure high safety oncological treatment, having walls and ceilings 2 meters thick and separate circuits for patients and staff.
The center is equipped with radiotherapy and brachytherapy equipment, including a CT and MRI simulator, integrated into the medical process. The investment of 77 million lei comes from the state budget and reflects efforts to expand the radiotherapy network and introduce new compensated oncological therapies. The minister emphasized the importance of this project, mentioning that patients in Romania have been waiting a long time for access to innovative therapies.
