On February 2, the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ) decided to exclude prosecutor Mircea Negulescu from the judiciary, this being the second time in the last seven years. In the same case, prosecutor Alfred Savu received a 20% reduction in his salary for a period of six months.
ÎCCJ found that both prosecutors committed disciplinary violations, including failing to respect the confidentiality of deliberations and exercising their functions with grave negligence. The Judicial Inspection revealed that, in 2016, Negulescu and Savu illegally discussed with individuals involved in criminal cases, including former deputy Vlad Cosma, disclosing information about investigations. The court emphasized that judges must act loyally towards the law, and bad faith is incompatible with the judicial function. Additionally, Negulescu had previously been excluded from the judiciary in 2019.
