The Romanian government decided on Thursday to reduce the excise duty on diesel by 30 bani per liter, in the context of the fuel crisis. The National Trade Union Block (BNS) welcomed this measure, emphasizing that it will have an immediate positive impact on pump prices and on the costs borne by the population and the business environment.
The organization proposed this solution last week, preferring the use of fiscal tools, such as reducing excises, instead of administrative interventions. BNS highlighted that revenues from excises and VAT have exceeded initial estimates, so there are no reasons to invoke budgetary losses. Although they consider that the reduction of the excise is a correct step, BNS calls for the return of excises to the level at the end of 2025 to generate a more consistent decrease in prices.
