The Romanian government has launched a major emergency ordinance project to regulate the employment of foreign workers, within a decision-making transparency procedure. The project aims to create a unified, modern, and digitized legal framework, which includes the operationalization of the WorkinRomania.gov.ro platform, which will facilitate interaction between employers, placement agencies, and state authorities. The legislative initiative addresses the labor force shortage in various economic sectors, aiming to strengthen the protection of foreign workers and prevent their exploitation. Among the proposed measures are the mandatory registration of employers wishing to hire citizens from third countries, the regulation of placement agencies, the introduction of a list of shortage occupations, and the clarification of work visas. The government encourages all interested parties to contribute with observations and proposals to ensure a fair legislative framework that supports the economic development of Romania and the protection of workers. The project and the explanatory note are available on the website of the Prime Minister's Chancellery.
