A draft government decision published by the Ministry of Energy provides for the allocation of 180 million lei from the budget reserve fund for Electrocentrale Craiova and ELCEN Bucharest, to ensure the continuity of thermal energy supply in these cities.

The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, emphasized the importance of this temporary measure, mentioning discussions with the mayor of Craiova and the need to avoid a social and health crisis. The project includes 30 million lei for Electrocentrale Craiova, which is in insolvency, and 150 million lei for ELCEN Bucharest. Ivan mentioned that, in the absence of these funds, citizens could be left without heating. Additionally, the necessity of installing hot water boilers as a temporary solution was discussed, until sustainable systems can be implemented. Electrocentrale Craiova, controlled by the Ministry of Energy, is facing significant financial losses, and the Craiova City Hall intends to acquire the necessary assets for the production of thermal energy.
