Border police in Giurgiu confiscated, on the night of February 22, 2026, over 30,000 counterfeit clothing items, perfumes, and leather goods, estimated at approximately 7.1 million lei, as well as 2,370 packages of duty-free cigarettes.
The goods were discovered in a truck registered in Romania, driven by a Turkish citizen, who could not present provenance documents for the respective products. Following the checks, the entire quantity of goods, with a total value of 7,179,800 lei, was seized for further investigation. The driver was placed in preventive detention for 30 days, being accused of circulating counterfeit products and smuggling. The truck was immobilized, and the investigation continues to establish the entire criminal activity.
