The court decided that Mihai Georgescu, 57 years old, harassed a 20-year-old employee, whom he hired as a security guard in October 2021. The official repeatedly insisted on receiving sexual favors in exchange for professional advantages, such as a better position and a higher salary.
The young woman refused his requests and recorded the conversations, then presented them to the police. Georgescu was sentenced to two years in prison with a suspended sentence and is no longer allowed to hold a public office for four years. Additionally, the former mayor has a criminal record, having been previously convicted of alcohol smuggling. He could not be reached for comment on the ruling, stating that he pleaded not guilty throughout the investigation and trial.
