The Embassy of Israel in Romania expressed concern and condemned the act of vandalism that took place in the Jewish Cemetery in Reghin, Mureș County, where 14 tombstones were displaced. Representatives of the embassy emphasized that such acts reflect an alarming escalation of antisemitism globally, posing a real threat to Jewish communities. The desecration occurred close to the National Day of Commemoration of the Holocaust in Israel, which makes this act even more serious.
The embassy called on the Romanian authorities to act promptly to identify those responsible and restore the affected monuments. The Mureș police have launched an investigation, confirming that the monuments were not damaged. The embassy reminded the importance of respect for memory and the responsibility to combat antisemitism and intolerance.
