The Romanian waters have initiated a new attempt to control the sinking of four barges on the Brațul Bala of the Old Danube, with the aim of gaining extra centimeters for cooling the reactors of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. This is the third day of maneuvers, which have been delayed due to strong currents and the large volume of water.
The authorities have conducted new analyses and modified the initial plans to ensure the success of the operation. The controlled flooding is carried out by pumping and lasts approximately three to four hours for each barge.
In parallel, other measures are being implemented to manage the situation. The ultimate goal is to improve the operating conditions of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, which depends on the waters of the Danube for cooling the reactors.
