The Competition Council has opened a new stage in the investigation of the Romanian banking system, announcing that individuals and companies affected by ROBOR can seek compensation in court. Bogdan Chirițoiu, the head of the authority, explained that although European legislation allows for the recovery of amounts, it is necessary to initiate separate civil lawsuits.

The investigation revealed that banks did not have a direct agreement regarding the level of ROBOR, but exchanged information that influenced its formation. Chirițoiu emphasized that the impact was minor, but it affected the costs of loans in lei. The Council does not determine the amount of damages, and the sanctioned banks have received record fines. The authority does not intend to block ROBOR, but to improve the process of establishing it.
