Context: after the sanctions over ROBOR, the banks have already started legal proceedings and are challenging the application of the fines
Following the decision of the Competition Council, several sanctioned banks have begun challenging in court the fines imposed in the case concerning the coordination of conduct in setting ROBOR. The first such case was brought by BRD and was heard on Wednesday at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, while the CEC Bank case was scheduled for Thursday; rulings were expected within the next one to two weeks.
Meanwhile, the president of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chirițoiu, said that the court would decide whether the sanctions must be paid immediately or could be suspended until the proceedings on the merits and, possibly, on appeal are resolved. If the requests were rejected, the banks would have approximately one month to pay, and each institution requested separate hearings, with some differences regarding requests for public hearings.
