The College of Physicians in Romania firmly condemned, on Sunday, violence against medical staff, highlighting the negative impact of misinformation in the health sector.
The President of the College, Cătălina Poiană, stated that the incident in Cluj County, where an ambulance was attacked, is a wake-up call regarding the risks generated by fake news. College officials emphasized that misinformation can lead to delays in diagnosis, refusal of treatment, and even violence.
The College of Physicians stressed the importance of health education and verifying information to prevent such situations.
The incident was triggered by false rumors about an ambulance allegedly stealing children, and the attack resulted in the driver being injured. The Ministry of Health condemned the attack and called for firm actions against those responsible. So far, three young people have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
