The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced on Friday that the Cluj Forest Guard identified 140 trees illegally cut down in the Ampoi Valley, a forested area in Alba County. The trees were intentionally uprooted with chains to obtain exploitation permits, with the criminals later claiming that they were blown down by the wind.
Following this discovery, seven criminal complaints were filed, three of which were for outrage. Buzoianu emphasized that the authorities will continue inspections to combat the timber mafia and will notify the investigative bodies whenever such illegal practices are discovered. The minister stated that those responsible must answer for their actions and that the destruction of forests will not be tolerated. This situation highlights the persistent issues related to illegal logging in Romania.
