The Chamber of Deputies adopts the establishment of a special committee for state funerals, coordinated by the Prime Minister's Chancellery.

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Wednesday the draft law that validates Emergency Ordinance no. 1/2024, which amends Law no. 215/2016 regarding official ceremonies. The new regulation provides for the establishment of a special committee for organizing state funerals, coordinated by the head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, aimed at better coordination among the involved institutions.

Deputy S.O.S. Romania, Ana Marcela Baș, emphasized that although the project is considered technical, it raises issues related to the management of national symbols and the risk of politicizing these ceremonies. The S.O.S. Romania group abstained from voting, expressing concerns about the Executive's control over the organization of funerals. In contrast, PNL Deputy Daniel Gheorghe supported the need for clear regulation, recalling the historical funerals in Romania. The project was adopted, thus completing the parliamentary procedure.
