The Bucharest-Ilfov Green Belt Project, a civic initiative dedicated to the protection and connection of the forests around the Capital, has officially entered the operational phase. On October 21, the Green Belt Foundation and the Bucharest Municipality signed a protocol for the development and implementation of the Bucharest-Ilfov Green Belt Operational Plan (PO-CVBI) at the Climate Change Summit 2025. The protocol will be submitted for a vote by the General Council of Bucharest at the end of October and establishes collaboration between the Municipality, the Foundation, and other authorities for the implementation of the project.

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, reaffirmed support for the Green Belt, considering it a strategic investment in the health and security of the community. The project aims to increase the forested area around the Capital from 16% to at least 30%, thus contributing to the improvement of air quality and combating climate change. The Green Belt includes important forests and will benefit from legal protection against commercial logging starting in 2025. Additionally, the Civic Platform 'Together for the Green Belt' brings together over 150 organizations to promote green infrastructure as essential for public health and climate adaptation.
