The National Bank of Romania has announced the launch of a silver coin dedicated to the painter Nicolae Tonitza, which is also the first rectangular-shaped coin issued by BNR.
The coin is part of a new series entitled "Romanian Painters". The obverse of the coin illustrates the painting "Yellow Flowers", which is part of the heritage of the National Museum of Art of Romania, and includes inscriptions such as "ROMANIA", the nominal value of "10 LEI", the coat of arms of Romania, and the year of issue "2026".
The reverse features a portrait of Nicolae Tonitza, his name, and the years of his life "1886-1940". The selling price of the coin is 1,150 lei, VAT included.
The coins are packaged in methacrylate capsules and come with presentation brochures and certificates of authenticity. The approved mintage for this issue is 500 pieces, and the coins have legal tender status in the territory of Romania.
