The National Bank of Romania (BNR) announces the launch of a new silver coin dedicated to the painter Nicolae Tonitza, on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of his birth.
The coin, which has a rectangular shape resembling a painting, is the first of its kind issued by BNR and opens the series 'Romanian Painters'. Cristian Popa, the president of the Numismatic Commission of BNR, highlighted the innovation brought to the field of Romanian numismatics. The coin has a nominal value of 10 lei, weighs 31.103 grams, and measures 43 x 31 mm. On the colored side, the painting 'Yellow Flowers' is reproduced, while on the reverse side is the portrait of Tonitza, along with his name and years of life (1886-1940).
BNR has approved a limited mintage of 500 pieces, each priced at 1,150 lei, including VAT. The coins are packaged in transparent capsules and accompanied by certificates of authenticity. Although intended for collectors, they have legal tender in Romania and can be purchased from the regional branches of BNR.
