On Monday, June 15, a bear attacked a Swiss tourist on DN 7C Transfăgărășan, near the Vidraru Dam. Following the incident, Romsilva announced on Tuesday that the bear was shot by employees of the Argeș Forestry Directorate, according to the decision of the local commission.
Foresters, gendarmes, and representatives of the Arefu municipality intervened on site to manage the situation. Romsilva emphasized the importance of preventing dangerous encounters between humans and bears by installing additional warning signs and intensifying joint patrols with the Romanian Gendarmerie in high-risk areas.
Authorities have called on tourists not to feed wild animals, warning that a bear accustomed to the presence of humans can become a danger to itself and to visitors.
