The maritime tanker Baustella, under the Hong Kong flag, ran aground on Sunday, August 2, in the Sulina Canal, temporarily blocking maritime traffic.
The incident occurred while the vessel was navigating upstream towards the port of Galați and lost maneuverability at the moment of encountering another vessel, running aground on the right bank of the canal.
A team from the Tulcea Port Authority, together with a tugboat from AFDJ Galați, intervened for the salvage operation. After discovering water infiltrations in a ballast tank, Baustella was towed to the port of Tulcea for technical inspection.
The checks will determine the damages and the reasons for the loss of steering, as well as whether the vessel meets the conditions for class re-confirmation. Baustella, built in 2018, is 110 meters long and has a capacity of approximately 7,995 tons.
This is the second incident involving the vessel. In both cases, no pollution occurred, and the investigations are coordinated by the Tulcea Port Authority.
