A 17-year-old teenager from Galați managed to rob a store in Bistrița-Năsăud, stealing 67,000 lei from a SelfPay machine. The young man contacted the employees by phone, claiming that he was performing maintenance on the machine. Misled, they entered 32 codes dictated over the phone and authorized the payments. After the store manager reported to the police, the teenager was apprehended following searches, being accused of theft and fraudulent financial operations.
The police issued a warning for employees managing such machines, advising them not to respond to suspicious phone requests and to always verify the identity of individuals requesting access to their systems.
