Annamaria Szekely, chief commissioner of the Mures Environmental Guard, said that the ecosystem of the Târnava Mica river is severely affected by pollution from the flooding of the Praid salt works. The high chloride concentration will take decades for the ecosystem to recover. The river has high turbidity and dead fish have been observed in the riverbed. The authorities are providing drinking water to the affected population and the Public Health Department is monitoring the water situation in the area, which remains within normal limits.
